Vitreoretinal Diseases and Surgery

Vitreoretinal Diseases and Surgery are conditions that affect structures in the eye called the retina and the vitreous. The retina is the light-sensitive layer in the Eye. A large variety of conditions can affect the vitreous and retina that lie on the back part of the eye that is not readily visible. Such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal detachments or tears. Such as macular holes, retinopathy of prematurity, retinoblastoma, uveitis, eye cancer, flashes and floaters.

Retinal vascular disorders are a set of diseases which include, but not limited to. Such as Diabetic retinopathy, hypertensive retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion. The retina is a layer of tissue in the back of your eye that senses light and sends images to your brain. In the center of this nerve tissue is the macula.

The retina contains millions of light-sensitive cells (rods and cones) and other nerve cells that receive and organize visual information. Your retina sends this information to your brain through your optic nerve, enabling you to see.

Treatment is available for some retinal diseases. Depending on your condition, treatment goals may be to stop or slow the disease and preserve, improve or restore your vision. Untreated, some retinal diseases can cause severe vision loss or blindness.
